I became an instructor in 2003 training and initially working for BSM for a number of years before moving on to Clickdrive and eventually starting up D L A Driving School in 2016. As a fully qualified ADI (Approved driving instructor) I am still always looking to learn and improve my coaching/teaching techniques and do so by attending various courses and seminars around the country. I am also a member of a number of driving instructor groups. Understanding that everybody learns differently I tailor each of my lessons to the individuals needs to help them achieve their set goals lesson by lesson and throughout their whole learning experience. I am a retired Police Officer, having served 30 yrs in Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Metropolitan Police. I was a highly trained, advanced police driver, driving what people now call 'Interceptors'. I do not teach my pupils how to carry out pursuits at very high speeds, however I do teach them how to drive safely. I have been a driving instructor since 2005. As well as teaching pupils to drive, and pass their driving test, I also teach qualified drivers who are seeking a change of career, to become driving instructors. Some people say being a driving instructor must be a stressful job. Having dealt with many stressful (and life threatening) situations in the police, I can honestly say being a driving instructor isn't stressful for me, I am able to remain very calm when teaching people to drive, so would be ideally suited to nervous drivers. Also, as a result of my experience in the police, I am able to communicate effectively, with a friendly manner, with most people.
